Types of Skin Rashes – Serious Skin Disorders

Types of Skin rashes occur when the skin loses its natural look and texture and develops rashes that may range from minor allergies to serious skin disorders. There are several types of skin rashes such as mild irritants to severe and itchy skin diseases.  Skin rashes need not necessarily be itchy.

Sometimes skin rashes cause just the skin to change color, or become dry. Other skin rashes may make the skin look blistered, swollen and may even cause pain.  The most annoying types of skin rashes are those that cause itchiness and are pustular, which means, pus oozes out of blisters or bumps on the skin.

There are various reasons behind different types of skin rashes.  Most skin rashes are caused because of factors such as allergies due to medicines, consuming food containing artificial dyes, or natural causes such as parasites and insect stings. Other skin rashes are those that are caused by bacterial or viral infections.

In the case of chickenpox, smallpox and measles, skin rashes serve as indicators and the ailment is treated according to the skin rashes developed. While the type of skin rashes in the case of measles is less severe and easily curable, the other two infections last for a longer time and can leave behind pox marks or scars.

Itchy types of skin rashes such as fungal infections can be caused by microorganisms such as ringworm. I t is also not uncommon for people to develop certain types of skin rashes due to reactions from vaccination. In some cases, it has been noticed that people, who are exposed to too much sunlight or have undergone sunburn, develop certain types of skin rashes.

Severe types of skin rashes that are persistent in nature are broadly classified as eczema that are characterized by red marking, flaking, swelling, dryness, crusting, cracking and in extreme cases even bleeding.

Psoriasis is another skin disorder that falls under the most acute types of skin rashes. Itchy red markings and thick scaly skin are typical symptoms of psoriasis. Though the cause of psoriasis is not known, it is a non-contagious disease that requires prolonged treatment.

The general advice for most types of skin rashes is not to scratch the rash even if it is itchy as scratching might greatly increase the risk of spreading the rash. The best solace for an itchy rash would be to gently rub the affected area without using fingernails. Use a mild soap and water to wash the affected area and keep it clean.

It is easy to identify most common types of skin rashes and treat them accordingly. Over the counter ointments and medication suffice in many cases. But in the case of persistent types of skin rashes, it is advisable to seek medical guidance from a good dermatologist.

Precautions for prevention of all types of skin rashes include eating a balanced healthy diet, wearing clean clothes and ensuring body hygiene. Drinking adequate amount of water keeps the skin moist and healthy.

It is also a good idea to keep hands always clean. Ensuring household cleaning at regular intervals will keep infectious organisms such as viruses and bacteria out of your home, thereby reducing the risk of contracting skin rashes.
