Causes, Treatment And Ways Of Dealing With Quadriceps Tendonitis

Learning about Quadriceps Tendonitis

Have you ever had some pain in your knees, or more specifically, just above the knees? This could be a sign that you are pushing yourself too hard. Many people will have slight pain in and around the knees just after a rigorous workout in which the knees were worked hard.

This is normal. It means that your tendons and ligaments were pushed, and that they need some time to repair themselves. This is the same thing that happens to muscles after you push them hard as well. They tear a little bit, become weaker, and then they heal themselves with more muscle tissue.

what is the Cause of This Condition?

However, when you don’t give your tendons time to heal themselves, you may find that you will have a bigger problem on your hands, and this problem is called quadriceps tendonitis. Quadriceps tendonitis is a condition in which the tendons which connect the quadriceps (thigh muscles) to the knee cap, and the knee cap to the upper shin bone, are torn and not given adequate time to repair themselves.

This usually manifests itself in the same kind of pain that you feel after a tough workout, but you will feel it all the time, even when you are doing nothing, and when you do try to move, you will feel a lot more pain in the area.

How to Deal with Quadriceps Tendonitis

Causes, Treatment And Ways Of Dealing With Quadriceps Tendonitis

This is a very common injury in athletes which use their legs for a living. You see, the way in which our legs work, acting as levers with a fulcrum in the knee, when we walk or run, we can put up to 5 times our body weight in pressure on our knees and the tendons there, and when people don’t take this into consideration and give them time to rest up and heal, they will end up with quadriceps tendonitis.

So, what do you do if you actually have quadriceps tendonitis? Well, first of all, don’t panic! It can go away quite easily if you let it. Before you do anything, though, you should go to a doctor to make sure that it really is what you think it is. The knees are fragile when not taken care of, and if you lose the use of one, you will never get it back.

Once the doctor confirms that it is, indeed, quadriceps tendonitis, he will then give you a prescription to take an anti-inflammatory. This will cause the swelling in your knees to go down, which will promote movement and healing. The second thing you will have to do, and perhaps the most annoying to some people, is just give them time to rest and to heal.

If you simply don’t use your knees for a few weeks, they will heal themselves, and you will be ready to go again! However, if you constantly push yourself, even with quadriceps tendonitis, you may end up tearing a tendon, or have this condition for a very long time, putting you off your goals forever. Take care of yourself! Let your body heal after you break it.
